2006 ABA Examination Dates
he transition from recertification to maintenance of
certification in anesthesiology began in January 2004.
American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) diplomates certified
before 2000 are eligible for either the Maintenance
of Certification in Anesthesiology Program®
(MOCA) or the Recertification Program. Participation
in either program will not jeopardize their diplomate
status.
Recertification and MOCA candidates will take the same
examination in 2006. The last year in which the examination
will be offered for recertification is 2009. To be eligible
to take the 2006 examination, diplomates must have been
certified in anesthesiology by ABA before 2000. The
examination will be administered by computer at more
than 350 test centers during a two-week period from
July 8-22, 2006.
ABA diplomates certified after 1999 have a time-limited
certificate and need to complete the MOCA program to
maintain certification. They have to enroll by the end
of the year following certification to be able to complete
the 10-year MOCA program before their certification
expires. They may apply for MOCA via the Web site <www.theABA.org>
at any time.
Beginning October 15, 2005, diplomates certified before
2000 may complete and file an application for the 2006
Recertification Examination electronically on the ABA
Web site. The standard deadline for submitting an application
is December 15, 2005. ABA will consider
applications received by January 15, 2006,
with payment of an additional fee for late filing. The
Board will not consider applications received after
January 15, 2006.
