The ASA Board of Directors has approved the following
regulations for the announcement of candidacies for
elected office:
1. On or before August 1 any candidate for ASA
office may send to the Executive Office a notice
of intent to run for a specific office.
2. The Executive Office shall prepare a list of
candidates submitted to be published in the September
issue of the ASA NEWSLETTER and the Handbook
of Delegates.
3. The announcement for candidacy does not constitute
a formal nomination to an office, nor is it a prerequisite
for being nominated.
4. Nominations shall be made at the Annual Meeting
of the House of Delegates for all candidates as
prescribed by the ASA Bylaws.
As approved by the Board of Directors in August
2000, a Candidates’ Forum is now available on
the ASA Web site. ASA members can view candidates’
curricula vitae at <www.ASAhq.org/candidates>.
Changes to Annual Meeting
Program Will Be Minimal
s most members have heard by now, the 2005 ASA Annual
Meeting has been relocated to the Georgia World Congress
Center in Atlanta, October 22-26, due to the devastation
in New Orleans from Hurricane Katrina.
Although details of rescheduling individual sessions
at the Annual Meeting are still in progress as of
press time, it appears that most of the educational
activities will be offered, although there will not
be space for the complete program that was planned
for New Orleans. ASA staff is working with Vice-President
for Scientific Affairs Charles W. Otto, M.D., to ensure
that the program will be as close as possible to the
one originally planned.
ASA-sponsored social activities are being canceled
this year in deference to victims of Hurricane Katrina,
and staff will not be able to reschedule committee
meetings (other than reference committees connected
with the House of Delegates).
Committees are encouraged to conduct their fall meetings
electronically if possible.
The dates for the House of Delegates have changed.
The work of the House will take place from Saturday,
October 22 through Tuesday, October 25, rather than
Sunday through Wednesday as has been the case in the
past.
Please check the ASA Web site <www.ASAhq.org>
for more detailed information in the days and weeks
to come.
Technical Exhibits
The relocation of the Annual Meeting to Atlanta this
year will not change the exciting educational opportunities
found in the exhibit hall, as most exhibitors will
be able to travel to the new venue.
The exhibits offer the opportunity for attendees to
see demonstrations of many new products and obtain
information about existing products and services.
All exhibits will take place in Hall C of the Georgia
World Congress Center, and approximately 275 companies
will exhibit. Please visit the ASA Web site <www.ASAhq.org>
for continuously updated information concerning the
exhibit program.
Exhibitors contribute vital support to the ASA Annual
Meeting and the medical specialty of anesthesiology,
and attendees are encouraged to visit the exhibit
hall.
