ASA Wins Web Site Award

t was announced in April that ASA has been given the Silver Award in the Association/Professional Society division of the World Wide Web Health Awards. Director of Communications Gina A. Steiner indicated that this is a very well-regarded award among communications professionals.

A component of the site that received special consideration is the ASA Centennial subsite. Originating with the Ad Hoc Committee on ASA’s 100th Anniversary, chaired by Douglas R. Bacon, M.D., and with guidance from Assistant Executive Director Denise M. Jones, the Communications Department created this subsite with assistance from Information Services and the Wood Library-Museum of Anesthesiology (WLM). Special thanks to Web Administrator Anita Abbatacola for the overall quality of the ASA Web site, to Communications Associate Roy Winkler as chief researcher and writer for the Centennial site, to Publications Manager David Love for designing the subsite and providing artwork, and to Judith Robins, Karen Bieterman and Patrick Sim of the WLM for helping to locate items from its archives. In addition to the Ad Hoc Committee, thanks go to the Web Site Editorial Board, chaired by Keith J. Ruskin, M.D.

Only 24 organizations received a Silver or Gold award, the highest levels, in this competition that evaluated more than 1,000 health information Web sites. ASA is in good company along with such prestigious organizations as the Mayo Clinic, the Cleveland Clinic, Baylor College of Medicine, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the National Institutes of Health.
