Glance |
The following figures were compiled by ASA staff from available
membership data as of April 30, 2006. Percentages reflect
just less than 1 percent of unaccountable data due to individual
member records with insufficient information.
Total
ASA Membership = 41,136 (another all-time high!)

Active members make up the largest segment
(62 percent) of ASA’s total membership with
resident members comprising about 15 percent.

The greatest number of ASA members (30 percent)
are between the ages of 46-55. The second largest
group (25 percent) includes ages 36-45.

|
The number of female anesthesiologists (22 percent)
has been climbing at a slow but steady rate as more
women enter medicine. In 1996, women accounted for
19 percent of ASA’s membership.
