he
Anesthesia History Association (AHA) sponsors an annual
contest to promote interest in the history of anesthesiology
among resident physicians. To enter the contest, residents
must write a 1,000- to 3,000-word essay on a topic about
the history of anesthesiology, pain medicine or critical
care while the author is a resident or fellow or within
one year of completion of residency or fellowship. International
submissions are encouraged. All essays must be written in
English.
The first-place award in this contest is $500. Prizes for
second and third places are $200 and $100. Finalists in
the Resident Essay Contest will be announced at the AHA’s
annual dinner meeting. That meeting will take place on Monday,
October 16, 2006, during the ASA Annual Meeting in Chicago.
The winners will be chosen and prizes awarded at the AHA
Spring Meeting in May 2007. The winners will be chosen by
a panel of judges on the basis of content, historical accuracy,
originality and presentation. Authors of all entries will
be encouraged to submit their essays for possible publication
in the AHA’s quarterly journal Bulletin of Anesthesia
History.
The essays must be submitted on or before September
1, 2006. Three paper copies can be mailed or one
