Battlefield Blocks
n October 10, a Tribune Democrat (Johnstown, Pennsylvania) article quoted William T. Fritz, M.D., on the use of nerve blocks in battle to ease pain and lessen side effects for injured soldiers. Dr. Fritz also comments on the use of the nerve-block approach on civilian trauma patients.


Fibromyalgia Treatment Options
iles R. Day, M.D., was quoted in an October 18 Dallas Morning News article on fibromyalgia. Dr. Day comments on the diagnosis of and treatment options for patients with fibromyalgia.


Fighting Anesthesia Fright
ndrew D. Rosenberg, M.D., was featured on an October 21 WNBC-TV (New York) health segment focused on easing patient fears about anesthesia. The segment provided patients information on what to ask and tell physicians prior to surgery. The segment has appeared on more than 25 NBC news affiliates nationwide.


Anesthesiologist Rescue Efforts Noted
n October 23 The Advocate (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) article reports that James M. Riopelle, M.D., was among several motorists who stopped to aid in rescue efforts for an auto accident that occurred near LaPlace, Louisiana. Dr. Riopelle also was quoted in the article, commenting on the impressive water rescue attempts of bystanders.


New OB Science Pregnant With Possibilities
n October 25 WTAE-TV (Pittsburgh) medical segment reported that the use of state-of-the-art technology allows more women — even those with heart problems — to have successful pregnancies. Obstetricians, surgeons and anesthesiologists monitor these patients closely and are available to perform delicate procedures.


Member Gets DSA in NY
November 1 Post-Standard (Syracuse, New York) article announced that ASA member Colleen E. O’Leary, M.D., received the distinguished service award from the Onondaga County Medical Society in New York.


Member Gets Press on New Book
he November 1 edition of The Plain Dealer (Cleveland) reported on the new book “You On a Diet,” co-authored by Michael F. Roizen, M.D.


Texan Takes GOP Seat
he November 8 Fort Bend Herald (Rosenberg, Texas) reported that John M. Zerwas, M.D., a Texas Republican and ASA Treasurer was successful in his bid for the 28th District House seat in the November 7 elections.


Hoosier Anesthesiologist?
ichael A. Kellams, D.O., was the featured source in a November 14 Indianapolis Star “Ask the Doctor” column. Dr. Kellams discussed what patients should know about anesthesia and important information to share with physicians.
