Washington) on November 30 reports that Mitchell
F. Minana, M.D., was part of a medical team from
Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital that donated
medical services to repair a congenital heart defect
for 2-year-old Margarita Hernandez as part of the
Healing the Children program.

on the use of nerve blocks for pain relief during
surgery. Dr. Hauter commented on how nerve blocks

he November 17, ADVANCE for Nurse Practitioners
featured an article on REMEDY (Recovered Medical
Equipment for the Developing World), a nonprofit
organization donating open, but not used, medical
supplies to developing nations, which was developed
by William H. Rosenblatt, M.D., and David G. Silverman,
M.D.

avid M. Gaba, M.D., was quoted in a December 8 Baltimore
Sun article on simulation training at the new
Maryland Surgical Simulation and Technology Center
at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Dr.
Gaba commented that more patients will soon start

Gets DSA
harles D. Belleau, M.D., was the recipient of the
Louisiana State Medical Society’s Distinguished
Service Award in recognition of exceptional and
meritorious service, according to an article in
The Advocate (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) on
December 24.

Discusses Treating War-Wounded
an H. Black, M.D., provided commentary for the December
26 National Public Radio “All Things
Considered” program. Chief of Anesthesia at
the 28th Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad, Dr.
Black discussed treating wounded U.S. service members,
employees, contractors and Iraqis at the busiest
U.S. military hospital in Iraq.
