Present
Your Medically Challenging Cases at the 2007 Annual
Meeting
wo
years ago, a new section was introduced at the ASA
Annual Meeting that allows physicians, both attendings
and residents, to present medically challenging cases
that they have managed. The section has been a resounding
success with more than 250 cases being presented at
the 2006 Annual Meeting. Discussion was lively. Why
don’t you consider presenting at this year’s
meeting in San Francisco? The section provides a dynamic
and informative forum for physicians to share their
experiences, teach others how they handled a difficult
situation and receive feedback as to how others might
have proceeded under the same circumstances.
If you have an interesting case that you think others
would enjoy hearing about and discussing, please submit
it for consideration. Medically challenging case presentations
are open to ASA members, attendings and residents
and must be submitted online on the Annual Meeting
Web site at www.ASAhq.org.
Deadline for submission is August 3, 2007.

Robert A. Caplan, M.D.,
Chair
Task Force on Prevention of Operating Room Fires
perating
room fires pose a significant risk to patients and health
care providers. ASA is developing a practice parameter
on fire prevention and fire management. This practice
parameter will include a comprehensive evaluation of
current literature, expert opinion and feasibility data.
A preliminary draft of the practice parameter will be
presented on Saturday, March 5, from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m.
at the Annual Meeting of the Society for Ambulatory
Anesthesia in San Diego, California. All meeting participants
are cordially invited to attend. The open forum presents
an opportunity to learn about this practice parameter
and to discuss its features with members of the Task
Force on Prevention of Operating Room Fires.
The task force welcomes suggestions and comments. If
you would like to receive a draft of this parameter
before the meeting, please contact Richard A. Connis
Ph.D., ASA guideline methodologist, at rconnis@aol.com.
