2008 Annual Meeting Learning Tracks

he ASA 2008 Annual Meeting on October 18-22 in Orlando will incorporate 10 learning tracks, as the Annual Meeting is planned and organized according to educational content.

The 2008 tracks are:

• ambulatory anesthesia

• cardiac anesthesia

• critical care medicine

• fundamentals of anesthesiology

• neuroanesthesia

• obstetric anesthesia

• pain medicine

• pediatric anesthesia

• professional issues

• regional anesthesia and acute pain.

A track is a concentrated curriculum on a focused area presented throughout the meeting. A key concept of the track system is to highlight aspects of subspecialty care that interest a broad audience. The track format is intended to foster the integration of subspecialty anesthesiologists with the needs of the membership as a whole. Track content will be spread across the entire five days of the meeting and will consist of a variety of learning formats: Refresher Courses, workshops, panels, luncheon panels, point-counterpoint sessions, Problem-Based Learning Discussions and Breakfast Panels.

Sessions will be held at the Orange County Convention Center.

All exhibits will be located at the convention center. Medically Challenging Cases will be located in the exhibit hall to provide an opportunity to discuss particularly interesting cases.

Co-headquarters hotels will be the Peabody Hotel and the Rosen Centre Hotel. House of Delegates activities will be scheduled at the Peabody Hotel.

Special sessions will include a Tuesday plenary session on the First Annual John W. Severinghaus Lecture on Translational Science. Dr. Severinghaus will present the lecture, with a special introduction by Thomas F. Hornbein, M.D.
