Funds Available for Obstetric Anesthesiology Related Research as Part of FAER’s Spring 2022 Grant Cycle

October 29, 2021

The Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) is pleased to share that funds are currently available for obstetric anesthesiology research through the Gertie Marx Research and Education Fund. Eligible candidates are encouraged to help FAER honor Dr. Marx’s legacy by submitting a Mentored Research Training Grant (MRTG), Research in Education Grant (REG), or Research Fellowship Grant (RFG) application related to obstetric anesthesiology during the Spring 2022 Grant Cycle, applications for which open December 1, 2021, and close February 15, 2022.

Gertie F. Marx, MD, was a pioneer in anesthesiology, helping to advance the care of obstetric patients and eventually to establish obstetric anesthesiology as a subspecialty. Her passion for obstetric anesthesiology lives on through the Gertie Marx Research and Education Fund, which she established at FAER in 2010. Her generous support has helped FAER to fund multiple obstetric anesthesiology research projects. The Gertie Marx Endowment Fund has recently supported the following:

Elizabeth R. Vogel, MD, PhD, 2021 Mentored Research Training Grant Recipient
CPAP, Piezo Channels, and Neonatal Airway Disease

James Matthew Kynes, MD, 2019 Research in Education Grant Recipient
The Effect of Simulation Combined with Booster Training on Long-term Clinical Performance for Caesarean Delivery in a Low-Resource Setting

Allison J. Lee, MD, 2017 Research in Education Grant Recipient
A Mixed Methods, RCT Comparing Two Methods of Debriefing for a Serious Game Designed to Teach Novice Anesthesia Residents (CA1) to Perform General Anesthesia for Emergency Cesarean Delivery

Matthew B. Friese, MD, PhD, 2016 Mentored Research Training Grant Recipient
Role of Complement and Microglia in Anesthesia-Induced Synapse Remodeling During Development

Christine Zanghi, MD, PhD, 2016 Mentored Research Training Grant Recipient
Anesthesia-Induced Developmental Neurotoxicity: The Role of Immature Microglia

Please help FAER honor Dr. Marx’s love for obstetric anesthesiology by submitting a research grant application in her field. FAER will accept applications between December 1, 2021, and February 15, 2022, for MRTGs, REGs, and RFGs for our Spring 2022 Grant Cycle. Applications related to obstetrics and fetal/neonatal development are highly encouraged. Details on FAER grants and the application process are available online at FAER.org/Grants.
