Congratulations to the 2023 Mentoring Excellence in Research Awardee and the Newest Members of ARMA!

September 28, 2023

The Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) would like to congratulate this year’s recipient of the FAER Mentoring Excellence in Research Award, Edward R. Sherwood, PhD, MD, Professor of Anesthesiology in the Department of Anesthesiology at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The Mentoring Excellence in Research Award recognizes the value of outstanding mentors in anesthesiology. Celebrated by his peers for the high quality and broad reach of his mentorship efforts, FAER is proud to present Dr. Sherwood with this year’s award. Establishing infrastructure to facilitate success and growth, providing guidance while maintaining space for mentees to make their own decisions, and supporting mentees through each step of their research journey, Dr. Sherwood is a perfect example of the positive impact a mentor can have.

“This award is important to me. Mentorship is one of our most important responsibilities as scientists and physicians, especially as we progress through our career to become senior members of the faculty. It is gratifying to see mentees succeed and become impactful mentors in their own right. I’m grateful to receive this recognition from FAER given all it has done to advance the careers of physician-scientists in our field.”
