Congratulations to the 2025 Mentoring Excellence in Research Awardee and the Newest Member and Councilors of ARMA!

The Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) would like to congratulate this year’s recipient of the FAER Mentoring Excellence in Research Award, Meghan Lane-Fall, MD, MSHP, FCCM, Professor and Chair of Anesthesiology at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, Anesthesiologist-in-Chief of the New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, and member of the FAER Board of Directors.

The Mentoring Excellence in Research Award recognizes the value of outstanding mentors in anesthesiology. Dr. Lane-Fall is precisely the type of mentor FAER seeks to honor with this award. She is recognized by her peers, mentors, and mentees as staunchly committed to offering her expertise as a mentor. Her steadfast dedication to mentorship led one of her nominators for this award to share: “Her enthusiasm for and commitment to mentorship are so strong that as one of her career advisors, I’ve occasionally seen fit to ask whether there were certain mentoring commitments she might pull back from to create more space in her personal and professional life.” However, despite a myriad of competing commitments and priorities, Dr. Lane-Fall’s devotion to nurturing future anesthesiologists and physician-investigators has remained resolute.

We would also like to welcome and congratulate Hannah Wunsch, MD, MSc, the newest member of the Academy of Research Mentors in Anesthesiology (ARMA).

ARMA facilitates the development of educational and research programs for junior faculty members, supports faculty members in mentoring roles, and is a resource for the development of mentors and role models in academic anesthesia. Dr. Wunsch will make an excellent addition to ARMA and FAER is pleased to welcome her to this academy.

Finally, please join FAER in welcoming ARMA’s newest Councilors and thanking them for their support. Drs. Nagele, Crowder, Bateman, Hopf, and Morgan will lend their leadership in helping shape ARMA’s plans and activities as it continues to grow, and FAER is grateful to benefit from their mentoring and scientific expertise.
