Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology Announces SOAP-FAER Mentored Research Training Grant

July 15, 2022

The Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP), a global professional society dedicated to advancing and advocating for the health of pregnant women and their babies, announced it has teamed with the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) to offer a co-sponsored SOAP-FAER Mentored Research Training Grant. The grant will launch during FAER’s Spring 2023 Grant Cycle.

The SOAP-FAER Mentored Research Training Grant will provide $250,000 in funding over a two-year period to develop the next generation of obstetric anesthesiology and perinatology physician investigators.

“Joining FAER to sponsor the Mentored Research Training Grant aligns with SOAP’s mission to advance and advocate for the health of pregnant women and their babies through research, education, and best practices in obstetric anesthesia care,” said SOAP President Klaus Kjaer, MD, MBA. “We look forward to realizing our goal to train the next generation of physician investigators.”

“FAER is delighted to join with SOAP to offer this new co-sponsored award,” said FAER President James C. Eisenach, MD. “The SOAP-FAER Mentored Research Training Grant will help ensure physician-investigators focused on obstetric anesthesiology and perinatology research have the tools they need for a successful, impactful career in the field. A perfect alignment of our organizations’ respective missions, FAER looks forward to seeing the research that will come from this award and the talented investigators who will carry it out."

SOAP and FAER will fund one SOAP-FAER Mentored Research Training Grant to the sponsoring institution of a highly promising new obstetric anesthesiology and perinatology scientist each year. The grant aims to help anesthesiologists develop the skills and preliminary data they need to become independent investigators in the area of obstetric anesthesiology and perinatology.

Applications will open December 1, 2022, on the FAER website. Details regarding the application requirements and process will be posted on SOAP and FAER websites this Fall.
