FAER-ABA Research in Education Grant

The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) and the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) are co-sponsoring a FAER-ABA Research in Education Grant (REG) to advance the knowledge of anesthesiologists interested in the key elements of education in anesthesiology—curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

Those interested in pursuing the FAER-ABA REG will need to submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) prior to submitting a full application. 

Research Areas: Value/Impact of ABA certification programs

NOTE: Priorities will be given to proposals that evaluate the following elements of ABA board certification, with special considerations given to those proposals that consider the topics below through the lens of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:

  • The value of initial certification and the Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology® program (MOCA®) to clinicians and the public, or
  • The validity and impact of the ABA’s initial certification program – the staged examination system (BASIC, ADVANCED, and APPLIED Examinations).

Eligibility: Anesthesiologist faculty member of any rank

Funding Amount and Duration: $100,000 over two years

Research Time: 40%
