Development and Validation of a Deep Neural Network Model for Prediction of Postoperative In-hospital Mortality

Both hypotension and hypertension have been reported to be associated with postoperative complications or mortality. Thanks to an educational grant from Edwards Lifesciences, this course provides a deeper understanding of the importance of blood pressure management on postoperative outcomes.
Faculty with expertise in the field, deliver crucial information to train clinicians and members of the care team on how to identify complications, manage outcomes and follow up appropriately.
This complimentary course is available to all ASA account holders.
This is a 3 module education activity with up to 2.5 credits available for completion of Module 1 and up to 7.5 additional credits available after completion of Modules 2 and 3 for a total of 10 credits.
Didactic. Module 1 provides a series of presentations and quizzes to understand the relationship between intraoperative hypotension and clinical outcomes. Up to 2.5 credits are available upon completion.
The optional Performance Improvement part starts with Module 2. Through a series of guided questions and utilizing concepts learned, you will create a Performance Improvement Action Plan. Subscribe to the discussion board to post comments or questions. After plan submission, spend a minimum of 14 days for implementation. On day 15 you will have access to Module 3 to reflect and report on outcomes. Up to 7.5 credits are available upon completion.

- Recognize the incidence, presentation, and mortality of postoperative myocardial injury after non-cardiac surgery (MINS), and the difference between MINS and 3rd Universal Definition myocardial infarctions. - Describe the efficacy and safety of potential prophylactic measures and treatments. - Define the importance of preventing hypotension during and after surgery.
Hypotension in the Cardiac Surgery Patient, you will be able to do the following:
- Explain differences in blood pressure management and goals during cardiac versus noncardiac surgery. - Discuss the cardiovascular relationship between perfusion pressure, systemic vascular resistance, and flow. - Define the impact of blood pressure management during cardiopulmonary bypass on end-organ function. - Discuss evidence demonstrating an optimal blood pressure determined by real-time cerebral autoregulation monitoring during cardiopulmonary bypass.
Blood Pressure Measurement and Treatment of Hypotension, you will be able to do the following:
- Explain how blood pressure is determined, what is being measured, and the accuracy to the measurement. - Identify the conservative interventions of intraoperative hypotension. - Describe pharmacologic interventions of intraoperative hypotension. - Define the potential consequences of the use of vasoactive medications in the context of intraoperative hypotension.
