The course objectives are to help you improve your awareness, knowledge, and skills in identifying signs and symptoms and outlining appropriate measures for managing crisis situations in the OR. At the completion of the course, you will be able to:

• Identify rare and complex prearrest circulatory crises that require immediate response in the perioperative setting.
• Review the essentials of BLS and ALS.
• Manage various forms of shock that may devolve into cardiac arrest.
• Apply principles of monitoring and management of ventilation, gas trapping, and resuscitation to hemodynamic instability and cardiac arrest.
• Outline treatment for common tachydysrhythmias and bradydysrhythmias, pump shock, airway management, and hypovolemia.
• Manage special causes of cardiac arrest including anaphylaxis, gas embolism, and malignant hyperthermia.
• Annotate ACLS algorithms to include common peri-operative causes of bradycardia, tachycardia, and Pulseless Electrical Activity.
