Envision Healthcare Support Early-Career Investigators

July 1, 2025

The Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) thanks Envision Healthcare for its generous $20,000 gift in support of FAER’s mission to develop the next generation of physician-investigators. An annual sponsor since 2022, Envision Healthcare’s gift is directed to the Step Up for FAER campaign and will go towards the long-term goal of establishing a new, endowed Mentored Research Training Grant (MRTG) for clinical investigators.

FAER is proud of its work to nurture anesthesiology’s early-career scientists and provide them with the tools and experience needed to thrive in the field. From supporting those just beginning their medical and research journeys through the Medical Student Anesthesia Research Fellowship (MSARF), to helping prepare aspiring independent physician-investigators to make the leap to federal funding through an MRTG, FAER is committed to fostering the scientists responsible for leading anesthesiology into the future.

Envision Healthcare is a clinician-led, multi-regional, multispecialty (Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Hospital Medicine) medical group with thousands of clinicians and millions of patient-encounters that is dedicated to enhancing life as a clinician, providing innovative, reliable, high-value, high-quality compassionate care to acutely ill patients and populations, and to engaging and supporting local and international communities in matters of health.

Not only is Envision Healthcare focused on delivering an exemplary experience for both its clinicians and patients, it’s also dedicated to delivering tomorrow’s care today through its leadership training programs, its risk reduction education programs, its advocacy programs, its 20 GME training programs – including over 600 residents in multiple specialties – and through its research efforts. In 2024, its research efforts included management of 284 trials, 73 peer-reviewed publications, and multiple abstract and poster presentations across the nation.

“We proudly support FAER in its mission to define and deliver tomorrow’s care today by supporting young investigators and the important work they are doing. We also believe that private philanthropic support of research has never been more important and, while we are proud to support FAER along with many others, we encourage everyone with a professional or personal interest in better and safer perioperative care to support FAER in these goals.”
- Joshua A. Bloomstone, MD, MSc, FASA, Envision Healthcare Anesthesiologist and Former Corporate CMO

“We are honored to count Envision Healthcare among FAER’s supporters. Their giving is a shining testament to the group’s commitment to ‘delivering tomorrow’s healthcare today,’ a pursuit that is fundamentally tied to research and the physician-investigators carrying it out.

“By supporting FAER, Envision is helping provide critical funding and protected time to the anesthesiology scientists who will shape the future of research in our specialty, and through it, the care we provide to our patients. We look forward to seeing the positive impact Envision’s giving will have on the early-career investigators FAER supports and the culmination of the Step Up challenge. Please join us in thanking them for their generous giving.”
- Max B. Kelz, MD, PhD, FAER President and Chief Scientific Officer (CSO); Dolores B. Njoku, MD, Chair of the FAER Board of Directors

In addition to supporting FAER, Envision is proud to highlight its “COSMO” system, which quantifies perioperative outcomes following inpatient surgical admission. This tool, which now has over 1.25 million surgical patient encounters, provides insights into perioperative morbidities at the facility level and allows for comparison of organ system outcomes across multiple institutions parsed by CPT codes, gender, age, and ASA PS. Insights from this work will be presented at the 2025 American College of Surgeons’ Quality and Safety Conference and at the annual meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

Please join FAER in thanking Envision Healthcare for its support. For more information, visit Envision’s website here. To learn more about FAER and its activities, view the Foundation’s 2023 Annual Report here, and stay tuned for FAER’s 2024 Annual Report this fall.

THE FOUNDATION FOR ANESTHESIA EDUCATION AND RESEARCH (FAER)
FAER is a related foundation of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). For over 35 years, FAER has been dedicated to developing the next generation of physician-investigators in anesthesiology. Charitable contributions and support to FAER help fuel the future of anesthesiology through scientific discovery. Funding priorities include: Research, Education, and Training. At the time of this article's publication, FAER has awarded more than $59 million in research grants and programs since 1986. To donate to FAER, visit FAER.org/donate.
