Welcome Letter

ANESTHESIOLOGY® 2018, The Future Starts Here: Bridging Research and Technology with Patient Care
World-class education, science, networking and professional development await you

The American Society of Anesthesiologists® (ASA®) is the strategic partner for physician anesthesiologists, researchers, care teams, practice executives and medical organizations looking to advance the specialty and improve delivery of care. With an unwavering focus on patient safety, physician-led care, sharing knowledge and scientific discovery, ASA delivers on its commitment to excellence.

The ANESTHESIOLOGY annual meeting is one way ASA celebrates and supports the profession. Each year features new scientific developments, technology and challenging cases in the field of anesthesiology. That’s why the ANESTHESIOLOGY annual meeting was created—it advances the knowledge of those serving the specialty, offers a community for anesthesiology providers to connect with each other, shares the latest scientific findings, and provides a platform for learning about the latest products and services the specialty has to offer.

We invite you to join us at ANESTHESIOLOGY 2018 to experience this first hand in the gateway city, San Francisco. Join anesthesiology professionals and industry leaders in sharing the latest advances and world-class education, networking opportunities and professional development. Whether it’s your first time attending or your tenth, we guarantee you’ll leave with helpful insights and new perspectives.

Discover your organization’s potential for innovation and disruption
Josh Linkner, this year’s keynote speaker, will open the meeting with a powerful message about innovation. He is committed to enhancing the future of the organizations and individuals with whom he works. His call to action is clear—to get ahead, it’s crucial to be innovative and disruptive. The theme will be resonating at ANESTHESIOLOGY 2018 as we plot the future of the specialty.

In addition, you can expect to learn a lot from featured lectures and 12 clinical tracks. And no matter which way you prefer to learn, it will be available at ANESTHESIOLOGY 2018. From lectures, to hands-on workshops, scientific e-abstracts and seminars, learners will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of experiences. Additional education sessions will feature diverse topics; perioperative brain health, emerging technologies, immunity, opioid crisis and professional burnout. New this year is a special live workshop, “Critical Strategies for Managing Mass Casualties: A Live Demonstration,” that tests participants’ response to a real-life emergency. It’s vital that practitioners are prepared for a variety of possible scenarios, and this demonstration will detail the most important things to know.

Connect with thought leaders in the specialty
In addition to education, there will be ample time to network with nearly 14,000 colleagues, thought leaders and anesthesiology providers from more than 80 countries. One opportunity is at Connect for a Cause.  This year, attend to mingle with peers and enjoy a tasting menu while raising funds for four foundations closely related to the American Society of Anesthesiologists. The ASA Charitable Foundation, Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation, the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research, and the Wood Library-Museum of Anesthesiology are each devoted to advancing the specialty in various ways.

Also of interest to attendees will be the Connection Center. New this year is the Grand Opening Reception; it will immediately follow the Opening Session on Saturday, October 13 and feature a brunch tasting menu. We encourage you to plan a visit to the more than 300 exhibitors as they present their innovative products and services in the Connection Center. We’d like to personally extend a thank you to our Industry and Annual Meeting Supporters who make ANESTHESIOLOGY 2018 possible and bring their expertise to our attendees. Be sure to visit their booths as well and thank them for their ongoing support. Their contributions provide much needed education, as well as advance our Society’s mission.

Claim continuing medical education credits at ANESTHESIOLOGY
There will be several opportunities to help fulfill your American Board of Anesthesiology® Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology® (MOCA®) requirements; designated sessions will count toward MOCA 2.0® Part II (Patient Safety) or MOCA 2.0 Part IV (Improvement in Medical Practice) requirements. Additionally, you can fulfill AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ at several sessions. Nursing credits will also be available.

There’s a reason ASA’s ANESTHESIOLOGY annual meeting is the largest educational anesthesiology conference in the world; the insights gleaned over the course of four days are invaluable. Registration opens this month; secure your spot before July 24, 2018 and receive a discounted rate.

We look forward to connecting with you at ANESTHESIOLOGY 2018 in San Francisco this fall.
