Nominations Open for ASA Resident Humanitarian Service Award
The ASA Resident Humanitarian Service Award, sponsored by the ASA Resident Component and ASA Committee on Global Humanitarian Outreach (GHO), recognizes one resident or fellow who has done outstanding work that promotes humanitarian involvement and that achieves several objectives, including attracting more residents and fellows to consider global health and humanitarian opportunities during training and encouraging academic departments to permit residents and fellows in their programs to do such work. Virtual World Congress of Anaesthesiologists (WCA) September 1-5, 2021
The World Congress of Anaesthesiologists (WCA) will be held virtually this year, and the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA) has opened applications for scholarships. Applications can be made via the WFSA’s application portal/website. Please spread the word to your colleagues around the world! Registration for all residents/trainees from low and lower-middle income countries is free i.e. they do not need to apply for the scholarship but can register via the WCA website for free.
India COVID-19 Emergency
India is reeling under a COVID deluge. People are dying on the streets due to lack of hospital beds, drugs and oxygen. Oxygen that we take for granted in our lives here is a precious commodity now in India and prices have soared by 350-400% for oxygen concentrators and tanks in India. Hospital beds are hard to come by and hospitals have to turn away even emergent cases due to lack of resources. Here is information on how to help.
One World Surgery is recruiting Anesthesiologists for Medical Missions
One World Surgery organizes surgical and primary care missions to its facility in Honduras, the Holy Family Surgery Center. One World Surgery also leads primary care field missions in the communities surrounding the site of its future surgery center and primary care clinic in the Dominican Republic. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is urgently recruiting anesthesia to provide care to communities without access to functioning health care systems. Pediatrics and obstetric experience is a strong priority right now.
