President Obama has invited Congressional leaders from both parties to participate in a discussion about the future of health care reform legislation. The meeting, slated for Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. EDT, will cover four topics chosen by the Administration: insurance reforms, cost containment, expanding coverage, and the impact health reform legislation will have on deficit reduction.

ASA members should be advised that some Members of Congress are continuing to push for a single payer system as part of health care reform. In response to the announcement about the Feb. 25 meeting, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) issued a release urging that participants consider instating “Medicare for All.”
ASA continues its involvement in ongoing discussions about health system reform. We will monitor and analyze the Feb. 25 meeting, and will provide ASA members with an update following the discussion.
