We seek to attract and assist high quality medical students to learn more about the field of anesthesiology and consider careers as anesthesiologists.
Become a Delegate to the ASA Medical Student Component House of Delegates
Represent your school in the ASA Medical Student Component House of Delegates. Every accredited medical school is entitled to one delegate and one alternate delegate to serve as liaisons between the ASA Medical Student Component and their medical school. Fill out an application beginning April 1, 2020. If a delegate or alternate from the previous year wishes to continue for the current year, preference is given to them. Contact ASA if you are unsure your school has a delegate.

Take Advantage of FAER Career Development, Research and Grant Opportunities
The Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) provides educational opportunities and career development for medical students, residents, and anesthesiologists. Advancing anesthesia education is core to FAER’s mission, and it is core to many of FAER’s programs.For medical students interested in careers in anesthesiology research, the Medical Student Anesthesia Research Fellowship (MSARF) program is an important starting point. FAER also provides research grant funding to gain additional training in basic science, clinical and translational, health services and education research. For early career anesthesiologists interested in pursuing careers as physician-scientists, FAER grants can be an important starting point.

The ASA Political Action Committee welcomes student membership and involvement. Join, contribute and participate in this exciting aspect of ASA.
Rural Access to Anesthesia Scholarship Program
The American Society of Anesthesiologists sponsors a scholarship for medical students introducing future physicians to rural anesthesia. ASA Medical Student members can apply for scholarships valued up to $500 to pay for travel and lodging expenses for a rural clerkship.
