Anesthesiology® Open to Complement and Expand Anesthesiology Knowledge Dissemination
CHICAGO – The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) today announced the launch of Anesthesiology® Open, a new online, peer-reviewed, open access journal published by Wolters Kluwer. Anesthesiology Open’s website and manuscript submission site are now live.
“This new journal, Anesthesiology Open, broadens the opportunities for scientific exchange offered by our flagship scholarly publication, Anesthesiology,” said ASA President Donald E. Arnold, M.D., FACHE, FASA. “We are truly excited to announce that Yandong Jiang, M.D., Ph.D., will take the helm of this new journal as executive editor.”
Dr. Jiang is a professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth, Houston. He served as editor for Anesthesiology for eight years and associate editor for Anesthesiology for the four years prior.
Anesthesiology Open will provide a platform for an expanded range of articles, including original investigations, research letters, reviews, focal points, letters to the editor and editorials. It will also introduce a unique article type called Innovation in Practice, which will illustrate a novel solution to an issue related to anesthesia, perioperative care, critical care, or pain management in the areas of patient safety, quality improvement, and practice management. The Innovation in Practice articles may include a concept for a new technology, the different or fresh use for an existing technology, or organizational change. Finally, Anesthesiology Open will serve as the dedicated home for select ASA statements and expert consensus documents.
“This is a fabulous opportunity for anesthesiologist researchers to share their work with a global audience,” said Anesthesiology Open Executive Editor Yandong Jiang, M.D., Ph.D. “We look forward to promoting scientific discovery and the dissemination of knowledge in anesthesiology and its subspecialties to advance patient care.”
