The American Society of Anesthesiologists Office of Governmental & Legal Affairs (OGLA) is pleased to host its inaugural class of residents for the ASA Policy Research Rotation in Political Affairs, a four-week rotation in Washington, DC, designed to allow resident physicians to experience the political, legislative and regulatory factors that affect the delivery of patient care beginning this fall in Washington, DC.
During the rotation, residents will achieve comprehensive understanding of health care policy, gain first-hand experience of a political environment, assist in day-to-day activities in ASA’s OGLA, attend lobby events sponsored by ASA, create specific research projects, and explore and report on new law and policy changes affecting the profession of anesthesiology.
After completing the rotation, residents will gain further appreciation for the enormous impact that advocacy and policymaking have on all facets of medicine, especially on the practice of anesthesiology. Understanding health care policy issues will directly affect and improve how residents care for patients each day in hospitals and other clinical settings.
The Policy Research Rotation in Political Affairs has been approved by the American Board of Anesthesiologists (ABA) to count toward residency credit. A stipend is provided.
At this time, applications for the 2010–2011 academic year are no longer being accepted.

ASA would also like to congratulate the following residents and their programs selected for the 2010-2011 Research Rotation in Political Affairs:
