UPDATED: Changes for Anesthesia Claims Under 5010 Transaction Code Set

We continue to receive reports of concerns related to claims submitted under the 5010 transactions standard:

-- A requirement for additional narrative information when a CPT code descriptor includes the phrase “not otherwise specified”

-- Confusion about whether the surgical CPT code is a required element in a claims for anesthesia services

ASA is working with multiple organizations to resolve these matters and will continue to post additional information as it becomes available.
