ASA, joined by U.S. Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (R-MD), will a host a telephone town hall meeting following the public release of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on the constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The meeting will feature discussions concerning the Court’s rulings and the implications of the rulings for the viability of reform law. Dr. Harris, the first anesthesiologist elected to the U.S. Congress, will provide the Congressional perspective on the Court's rulings including the perspective of the Congressional "Doctor's Caucus" – a caucus of physician-lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The Court has not formally publicized the expected date of the release of its rulings. However, a public release is anticipated for either Tuesday, June 26 or Wednesday, June 27. The ruling is expected to be comprised of three pieces - 1) the constitutionality of the expansion of Medicaid under PPACA; 2) the constitutionality of the individual mandate; and 3) implications for the remaining part of the law if the individual mandate is found unconstitutional.
The ASA briefing will occur the evening of the date of the release at a time to be announced. Dial-in information will also be provided at that time.
