On May 28, the House Energy and Commerce Committee Republicans unveiled a legislative framework for the repeal of the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula and for a replacement mechanism. The new system calls on medical organizations to work with the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services to develop "quality measures for competency assessment."
The Committee will hold a hearing regarding this draft legislation on June 5, 2013, and will be soliciting comments from stakeholders through June 10, 2013.
ASA is currently reviewing the draft legislative language. ASA remains committed to repealing and replacing the flawed SGR mechanism with a system that more accurately reflects the cost of providing care to Medicare patients.
