On August 19th, Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced that Richard Kronick, Ph.D. will serve as the next Director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) upon the departure of current Director, Carolyn Clancy, M.D., later this month.
Dr. Kronick currently serves as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation in the Office of Health Policy at HHS. Prior to his time with HHS, Dr. Kronick was Chief of the Division of Health Care Sciences and a professor in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. He has also served in various federal and state positions including as Director of Policy and Reimbursement for the Medicaid Division of the Massachusetts Department of Public Welfare and as a Senior Health Policy Advisor in President Clinton’s Administration.
