Rafael Miguel, M.D. was recently appointed to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Anesthetic and Analgesic Drug Products Advisory Committee. This 13 member FDA Advisory Committee is charged with reviewing and evaluating data regarding the safety and effectiveness of drugs used in anesthesiology and surgery, and formulating recommendations to the commissioner of the FDA.
Dr. Miguel specializes in pain medicine and currently has a practice affiliated with the University of South Florida (USF) with clinics in Tampa and Sarasota in Florida. He has served as the president of the Florida Society of Anesthesiologists, chairman of the USF Department of Anesthesiology, and as vice-chair of the Florida Board of Medicine. Dr. Miguel attended medical school at the University of Cadiz in Cadiz Spain and completed his residency in anesthesiology at Tulane University.
