Senior CMS Official Jonathan Blum to leave May 16

Last week, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Marilyn Tavenner announced that Principal Deputy Administrator Jonathan Blum will leave CMS on May 16, 2014. 

Jonathan Blum has been with CMS since 2009, serving as the director of the Center for Medicare until 2013. In this capacity he led the implementation of many important Medicare reforms, including the Medicare Shared Savings Program (ACOs).  In his role as principal deputy administrator, Mr. Blum oversaw payment and delivery system reform efforts. Additionally, he oversaw the recent release of Medicare physician billing data.

Prior to joining CMS, Mr. Blum worked as a program analyst in the Office of Management and Budget, and he served as professional staff to the Senate Finance Committee under then Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT). 

In 2011, Mr. Blum was a featured speaker at the ASA Legislative Conference.
