Update on ICD-10-CM/PCS Transition Date

The Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014 provided for a one year patch for the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula.  It also delayed transition to ICD-10-CM/PCS from October 1, 2014 to a date not prior to October 1, 2015. This resulted on uncertainty as to the exact date of transition. CMS has released its  Proposed Rule for the 2015 Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment System ( IPPS) and within that proposed rule makes several reference to an October 1, 2015 transition. The exact date is an important factor to consider as anesthesiologists and other stakeholders determine next steps in preparation for the change from ICD-9 to ICD-10.
