President Barack Obama has nominated Bob McDonald to be the next Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Bob McDonald is the former chief executive of Procter & Gamble and a West Point graduate who served in the Army for five years. If confirmed, he would replace Acting VA Secretary Sloan Gibson, who has held the position since Eric Shinseki resigned from the top position in VA last month amid increasing reports of mismanagement and poor quality of care.
To become Secretary, Bob McDonald must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate in the coming weeks. In the meantime, ASA leadership and staff continue to work with officials in VA to express concerns with the proposed VHA Nursing Handbook and to ensure that all Veterans receive the best possible care.
