Congratulations to Jerome Adams, M.D., M.P.H., who was named by Indiana Governor Mike Pence on Wednesday as the next Commissioner for the Indiana State Department of Health. He will begin his position as Commissioner of the Indiana State Department of Health on October 22.
A longtime member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), Dr. Adams is a member of the ASA Committee on Professional Diversity and the ASA Delegation. He is also active in several other professional organizations, including serving as the Assistant Treasurer of the Indiana State Medical Association and serving on the Executive Committee for the Indiana State Medical Association. Dr. Adams is also a member of the Indiana Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Medical Association, and the National Medical Association.
Dr. Adams completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, earned his Masters of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley, and received his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine.
Currently, Dr. Adams is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesia at the Indiana University School of Medicine and a staff physician anesthesiologist at Eskenazi Health, where he serves as Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
Dr. Adams joins at least one other physician anesthesiologist serving as commissioner of their state Department of Health, with Dr. Howard Zucker currently serving as Acting Commissioner of Health for New York State. Congratulations to Dr. Adams on this achievement!
