On September 25, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH-08) announced that he would retire from Congress at the end of October. This unexpected announcement could result in a shake-up of House Republican leadership for the remainder of the 114th Congress, which concludes January 2017.
Speaker Boehner has served in Congress since 1991. Other members of the current House Republican leadership include Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA-23) and Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA-01).
ASA staff will continue to monitor the House Republican leadership changes.
