Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI-01) was elected today to serve as the 54th Speaker of the House of Representatives, replacing outgoing Rep. John Boehner (R-OH-08).
Speaker Ryan, who has served as former chairman of the Budget and Ways and Means committees, was elected with 236 votes, more than the 218 necessary.
Since Rep. Boehner announced his decision to retire from Congress effective at the end of October, there has been contention about the House Republican leadership positions.
ASA looks forward to working with Speaker Ryan and the rest of the House leadership to continue to promote the society’s advocacy priorities.
