ASA Member Successfully Nominated to Serve as Clinical Expert on CMS Advisory Committee

ASA member Dr. Asokumar Buvanendran was recently notified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that his nomination by ASA to the Medicare Evidence Development & Coverage Advisory Committee (MEDCAC) has been accepted.

MEDCAC was established to provide independent guidance and expert advice to CMS on specific clinical topics and is used to supplement CMS' internal expertise.  The Committee reviews and evaluates medical literature, reviews technology assessments, public testimony and examines data and information on the benefits, harms, and appropriateness of medical items and services that are covered under Medicare or that may be eligible for coverage under Medicare.

Dr. Buvanendran is Chair of ASA’s Committee on Pain Medicine and his experience and expertise will prove valuable in this role.  ASA congratulates him on this appointment.
