ASA Urges CMS to Suspend Finalization of CJR Model

On Tuesday, April 21, the American Society of Anesthesiologists urged the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to suspend work to finalize the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) model. 

ASA’s request came in response to a proposed rule to revise the CJR model to:

1. Extend the model by three years through December 31, 2023, for certain participants; 
2. Expand the model to the hospital outpatient environment beginning in 2021 and
3. Modify the target price calculation. 

Given the state of the current public health emergency and responsibilities of hospitals to respond to this global pandemic, ASA believes suspension is the appropriate course of action.
