Medical Care of Surgeon General

ASA has been made aware of information circulating on the internet regarding the surgical care of the U.S. Surgeon General, Jerome Adams, M.D.

Dr. Adams has long been an advocate for team-based care, and in his tweet he mentions both the doctors and nurses who were involved in his care. Due to HIPPA, beyond what he chooses to share, it is inappropriate to speculate and a prohibition of law for ASA or any other organization to discuss his medical care without his permission. ASA would note that publicly available information indicates that staff at the facility include a physician anesthesiologist and nurse anesthetists.
