Secretary of Health and Human Services, Alex Azar II, renewed the public health emergency for an additional 90 days as a result of the continued consequences of COVID-19. The current order was set to expire on July 25, 2020 and the renewal extends the previous order declared on April 21, 2020, which extended a January 31, 2020 determination that a public health emergency exists.
Along with this order, the existing regulatory waivers implemented because of the pandemic will also remain, including those pertaining to telemedicine and the CMS waiver of the Medicare Anesthesia Services physician supervision requirement.
