In August, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the proposed rule for the CY 2021 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule. As proposed, Medicare payments for many medical specialties would be cut significantly. Payments for anesthesia will be cut by 10%.
In response to the announcement of the proposed rule, the American Society of Anesthesiologists sent formal comments to Administrator Verma and CMS and launched grassroots efforts to urge lawmakers to prevent cuts to Medicare payments for anesthesia services. So far, ASA has sent over 12,500 messages to the Hill.
ASA created another grassroots effort asking members to reach out to their lawmakers, requesting they sign on to the bipartisan letter by Representatives Ami Bera, MD (D-CA) and Larry Bucshon, MD (R-IN) to House leadership on this critical issue. 714 letters have been sent to the Hill so far.
Take action today by asking your representative to sign on to the Bera-Bucshon letter.
