Recently, Secretary Denis McDonough appointed American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) member Pavithra Ellison, MD, MMM, FASA to the Veterans Rural Health Advisory Committee of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Dr. Ellison will serve a term of up to three years.
Presently, Dr. Ellison serves as Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at West Virginia University (WVU) School of Medicine and as the Medical Director of Perioperative Services for WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital, and as Associate Residency Program Director at WVU Medicine. Having achieved her medical degree from the Annamalai University in India and her anesthesiology residency at New York University Langone Health followed by a fellowship at Johns Hopkins University, she brings extensive experience in the delivery of care in rural communities to the Committee. Dr. Ellison is committed to optimizing the delivery of anesthesia care in rural communities as evidenced by her research and scholarly articles. Dr. Ellison is committed first to her patients who include Veterans, but also to the broader advancement of patient safety and care serving her institution, her community, and her profession.
