ASA Urges Reconsideration of NIH 15% Cap on Indirect Cost Payments

Today, the American Society of Anesthesiologist (ASA) joined other prominent national physician organizations in urging the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to rescind its directive capping NIH grant indirect cost payments at 15%. In lieu of the new and untested policy, the organizations recommend that NIH work collaboratively with key stakeholders to “develop a solution that balances transparency, efficiency, and sustainability.”  The current NIH leadership are urged to consider that the “collateral damage of this policy, if implemented, will be profound and generational, reshaping the future of scientific progress in ways that cannot be easily undone.”
