Last week, ASA submitted comments to the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) on its latest standards development document that governs Ambulatory Surgical Centers. In its comments, ASA urged AAAHC to decouple “hands-on” training from larger training programs like Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS).
ASA proposed a more seamless incorporation of specialty-specific training programs like Perioperative Resuscitation and Life Support (PeRLS) and provide facilities with more flexibility and burden reduction in developing local training policies.
ASA comments also encouraged alignment between AAAHC standards and the Conditions for Coverage (CfC) and Conditions of Participation (CoP), including provisions for physician supervision of anesthesia services.
