On Thursday, August 14, the medical staff of the Minneapolis VA Medical Center (VAMC) voted to amend the medical staff bylaws to authorize the nurse-only model of anesthesia care. The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) opposed the unprecedented change and had joined the Minnesota Society of Anesthesiologists (MSA), the Association of VA Anesthesiologists (AVAA) and the National Association of VA Physicians and Dentists (NAVAPD) in raising alarm at the lower standard of care proposed at the facility. The organizations have pledged to continue advocating for changes to mitigate its impact on the quality of care provided to Veterans.
If you are aware of anesthesiologist vacancies at a VA facility in your community that are going unrecruited or unfulfilled, please report them immediately to our Advocacy Team at [email protected].
