The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) has endorsed the Medicare Advantage Prompt Pay Act, bipartisan and bicameral legislation that would require MA plans to pay clean claims promptly. If the MA plan misses a deadline for prompt payment, interest must be paid and civil monetary penalties of up to $25,000 per claim can be applied.
“Physicians are faced with increasingly outlandish administrative burdens to get their patients the care they need, and then inadequate and delayed payment for that care. ASA is supportive of the Medicare Advantage Prompt Pay Act that will curtail anti-patient gamesmanship within the Medicare Advantage program and ensure that Medicare Advantage plans promptly and fairly pay physicians for the necessary care they provide,” said ASA President Donald E. Arnold, MD, FACHE, FASA in the statement of endorsement.
