ASA has endorsed S. 2759/H.R. 5283, the Healthcare Workforce Resilience Act, bipartisan legislation that would responsibly strengthen the U.S. healthcare workforce by recapturing unused immigrant visas for physicians and nurses, without expanding existing visa caps. This legislation was introduced in the Senate by Senators Richard Durbin and Kevin Cramer, and companion legislation was introduced in the House by Representatives Bradley Scott Schneider and Don Bacon.
ASA commends provisions in this legislation that expedite visa processing, including premium processing at no additional cost, faster consular review, and accelerated application handling, all of which help reduce administrative delays and support continuity of care in high-acuity and underserved areas. ASA believes this legislation is a critical step toward reinforcing the nation’s healthcare infrastructure and will continue advocating for policies that support the resilience of our profession.
