ASA applauds U.S. Rep. John Joyce, MD, Co-Chair of the House GOP Doctors Caucus for his questioning of major health insurance executives during the recent Energy and Commerce Committee hearing on health care affordability.
Rep. Joyce detailed how insurers have vertically and horizontally consolidated across the health care system, owning PBMs, pharmacies, GPOs, physician groups, hospitals, and drug manufacturing entities. He cited reporting that insurers may be engaging in self dealing by routing care to their own subsidiaries, effectively putting corporate profits ahead of patients. Rep. Joyce requested detailed transparency by the end of February, and all insurers agreed to provide the information.
