On Monday, March 23, members of ASA leadership spent the day in meetings with senior Congressional staff to discuss health policy items and ASA priorities for the year ahead.
This annual event, called the “EC Day in Washington,” was attended by ASA President Patrick Giam, MD, FASA, President Elect Jeffrey Mueller, MD, FASA, First Vice President Kraig de Lanzac, MD, MBA, FASA and Immediate Past President Donald Arnold, MD, FACHE, FASA, ASA CEO Brian Reilly, as well as members of the ASA advocacy division staff and March Resident Scholar Abigail Schirmer, MD.
Throughout the day of meetings, members of the ASA Executive Committee met with representatives of key Congressional Committees of Jurisdiction, the House GOP Doctors Caucus and the House Democratic Doctors Caucus, as well as Congressional leadership to push for preserving safe anesthesia care for Veterans, holding big insurance companies accountable, Medicare payment reform, No Surprises Act implementation improvement, and other health care legislation.
ASA thanks Congressional staff for their participation in this event and looks forward to continuing to work alongside lawmakers on the many pressing issues affecting patient safety and the specialty.
