ASA and a coalition of national health and research organizations urged congressional appropriators to provide no less than $500 million for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) in the FY27 Labor–HHS–Education appropriations bill.
The coalition emphasized that AHRQ is the federal government’s leading agency for health services research, generating evidence that improves patient safety, strengthens health systems, reduces medical errors, and supports high value care. Despite this critical role, years of underfunding and staffing reductions have limited the agency’s ability to meet its statutory responsibilities.
The letter calls for increased funding and sufficient staffing to ensure AHRQ can continue supporting research that informs clinical practice and improves outcomes for patients nationwide.
ASA will continue advocating for strong federal investment in research that advances safe, high quality patient care.
