ASA and a group of national health care organizations urged Congressional appropriators to provide funding for programs authorized under the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act in the Fiscal Year 2027 Labor–HHS–Education appropriations bill. This ASA-supported legislation would fund federal efforts to address burnout, improve mental health, and strengthen suicide prevention resources for physicians and other health care professionals.
ASA was joined by 73 additional health care organizations in urging funding of at least $45 million for the Lorna Breen Act as part of the upcoming appropriations package. The groups applauded Congress for passing the legislation and urged Congressional leaders to “ensure these programs are fully equipped with the resources needed to continue carrying out the mission of protecting and improving the health and well-being of health care workers.” Since enactment, Lorna Breen Act grants have supported more than 250,000 health care workers across 24 states, reducing turnover and burnout through evidence-based initiatives.
