ASA immediate past president discusses conscious sedation with the Star Tribune
J.P. Abenstein, M.S.E.E., M.D., was quoted in a
Star Tribune (Minn.) article regarding the use of conscious sedation for transcatheter aortic valve replacements rather than general anesthesia. Dr. Abenstein shared that while general anesthesia remains critical for many lifesaving surgeries, studies show it can hinder recovery or result in long-term complications.
